I started working with Boeing through this program last July, and met quite a few other young techs up at the Everett plant, who had mainly studied at the Everett Community College. At first the work was mainly about installing and/or disconnecting desktops/docking stations (plus keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc), moving them around from one location to another (always within the Everett plant), and occasionally do what Boeing calls a flat and reload (basically reinstall the OS from an image with a basic common layer of software) and install some more specific applications on top of that. Not much troubleshooting at all, but a lot of learning, in terms of logistics, as the plant is huge with tens of buildings and factories and thousands of PC, printers and other devices we are supposed to support, and learning in terms of how Boeing manages its computing services. When I got a chance to get more involved with troubleshooting and restoration, I jumped on board but had to go to work in the Seattle Boeing Field and Sea-tac areas. Now the work is really more interesting as I'm doing desktop (and laptop) support and field tech support, for software/hardware tickets mainly in the windows 2000 and XP Pro environments.

Crista Shaw from the EdCC Career Action Center was really helpful in finalizing my resume' and her coaching for my interview with Boeing was excellent. A tip for your resume': highlight your customer service skills and computing skills in a fast paced environment. Communication is very important. However do not hesitate to call the above number, I'm sure Crista has got many more tips for you.

If hired, you will be working in the South end (Renton, Seattle, Longacres, or Kent, etc. There are openings for dayshift and 2nd shift. Interviews will be held September 21st. There have only been 4 people (as of 4/05/-05) contact them about this job. This is a private job so most people on Monster can't find it. They are only pulling from trusted sources so if you haven't applied you really should do so, like NOW!

To all my A+, Net+ and Server+ students. EdCC contacted me about some upcoming jobs. Right now there are 8 PC technician jobs and this will grow to 73 later in the year.

One of our techs is applying for a job on the main campus and will likely get it. I am hoping to pre-screen good replacements so we can replace him quickly.

If you know any GOOD techs please forward this to them. Answers to the frequently asked questions are below.

Do you know yet what the job will entail?
Mostly classroom and admin desktop support. It is a "swappable drive" system here. We have 250, yes 250, images for various classes (it can be reduced) that are burned onto about 35 sets of hard drives. The work week involves 4 ten-hour days. The likely opening is to work Monday - Thursday.

More on the desktop or server/network side?Ã‚Â We are a tree in the BCC domain. The only server we have that we can control is a file share server. However, we have two servers that are "owned" by the testing vendors that deliver tests to our site.

How many computers are they supporting? 285 machines in 16 classrooms. 40 admin machines.

Pay? Starts around $40,000.
